Welcome to our blog! This is our first blog, so we decided to talk a little about a common dental problem, one we see almost daily. Do you have sensitive teeth? What is a sensitive tooth?
A sensitive tooth is one that responds abnormally to something like heat, cold, or pressure. In most cases it is a simple problem, easily managed. But in other cases it can be severe, and need more attention from the professionals!
Common causes of sensitivity to heat or cold are things like leaky fillings, dental decay, or a bite that is abnormal or has shifted. Some cases are long-standing or “chronic.” In those cases, we look for gum disease or “periodontal” conditions that might be exposing sensitive areas of the roots. For a more complete discussion of causes take a look at a nice article at the ADA website by tapping here.
Sometimes a tooth is sensitive because it is cracked. This can also require professional intervention and sometimes treatment.
